The Jury Members of the International Competition:
Yann Beauvais ( Paris)
Susann Buchan ( London)
Kaspar Stracke ( New York)
have decided to award following works:
First Price of the International Competition to:
White Balance von Francois Bucher
In White Balance Francois Bucher investigates the way we address
political issues while making an art work. The emotional eruption
of 9/11 came into focus while the maker was questioning, through
production and propagation, the possibilities to decode news
and data in such a manner as not to reproduce known analysis,
but to create a model from which analyses can be made, independent
from any media. With this approach he has developed a highly
aesthetic language that is able to simultaneously deliver
hard-boiled facts and meditative imagery. The result is a
disturbing, challenging work, convincing in every frame.
three special prices ex aequo to:
"FROM THE HOME FRONT" von Asil Bothuhn
It sometimes takes a simple idea to point out the heaviness
of a neurosis induced by a bourgeoise family`s surroundings.
Within the film's perfect environment all that is left to
do for the young woman is to spit out her resentment through
delicate flowers.
"Rock in the Video Age" Niclas Dietrich
The nightly gaze towards an illuminated residential building
evokes an eastern European archetype. This simplistic work
succeeds to combine digital aesthetics with cinematic materiality.
Digital glitches mime the known accidents in cinema, such
as the stuttering of the image and its patchy decay.
"Unternehmen Paradies" von Volker Sattel
Volker Sattel presents a sketch of the contemporary German
condition. He scrutinizes odd views of the New Berlin in the
wake of Germany`s transforming capital. The city celebrates
itself with a new face, a new representation of power. Within
this fragmented assembly of cityscapes, Sattel inserts tropes
of Berlin's new entertainment culture, and its relentless,
subversive countercultures. The work evokes many questions
about urban experience here and elsewhere.
The winner of the Swiss competition is:
The Jury Members of the Swiss Competition :
Black Milk, CH Video, 4:00 Von Max Philipp Schmid und Beat
Brogle
Der Clip hat die Jury durch das raffinierte und kompromisslose
Zusammenspiel von Bild und Ton, Rhythmus und Schnitt, Inhalt
und Form überzeugt – ein ehrliches und erfrischendes Beispiel
visueller Musik.
